Sanding of wooden houses
Wood sanding is an integral part of maintenance, repair, and preparation for painting. This is a rather laborious and one of the most technically complex processes of preparing wood for further operation.
Technologically, sanding pursues the following goals:
- Preparation of the base for painting by removing a layer of wood (including dead and gray) or old paint;
- Creating perfect adhesion (grip) by light "matting" with fine abrasives without removing the paintwork;
- Removal of raised pile and fibers after applying water-based paintwork materials;
- Aging (brushing) — removal of soft fibers using brushes to emphasize the texture;
- Creating a perfectly smooth and even surface.
If the paintwork is destroyed and the surface has been without protection for a long time, the process of wood destruction from ultraviolet radiation and precipitation begins. In this case, we resort to deep sanding with the complete removal of damaged layers.
The work is performed both manually and mechanically using specialized tools: angle grinders ("grinders"), vibration and planetary sanders, belt sanders, renovators, and sandblasting machines. All these processes require high professional skills and experience.
How we work: sanding stages
Measurement and inspection
Moisture measurement. Inspection for damaged wood and old paintwork to choose the recommended type of sanding.
Surface preparation
Preliminary dry removal of sand, cobwebs, and dry leaves (if aqua-sanding was not previously performed).
Main sanding
Sanding by the selected method and profile tool using the right set of abrasives.
Complex areas
Careful manual and specialized power tool treatment of non-linear and hard-to-reach places.
Dust removal and control
Checking for unevenness, pits, and scratches. Thorough dust cleaning, washing with a special agent, and final rinsing.
Intercoat processing
Light intercoat sanding (matting), performed strictly between the layers of paintwork material application.
Classification of sanding works
- By depth: light preparation, deep cleaning of new wood, deep removal of old paintwork;
- By stages: starting (with coarse abrasives), finishing (with fine ones), and intermediate (without sanding down to the wood);
- By location: horizontal (floors, ceilings, overhangs) and vertical (walls, windows) surfaces outside and inside;
- By construction: rounded, profiled, and glued timber, frame houses, planken.
